Investments Impact 195 Housing Units and Nearly 1,300 Residents throughout the State
CDFA has awarded $3.67 million in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds to New Hampshire communities. These critical resources will support housing, public facilities and infrastructure projects in communities throughout the state. Investments will impact 195 units of housing and nearly 1,300 residents.
“Community Development Block Grant funds are essential resources that help strengthen New Hampshire communities,” stated Katherine Easterly Martey, Executive Director, CDFA. “The impact of these investments in our communities is significant. These eight projects alone will create or preserve 195 affordable housing units and improve public facilities and infrastructure that will serve nearly 1,300 residents. Our municipal and nonprofit partners in this work are turning federal investments into meaningful solutions for our communities.”
Projects approved by CDFA’s Community Development Advisory Committee include:
Housing
Sullivan County – Lead Hazard Abatement and Healthy Homes Program – $300,000: Grant funds will be used to complete non-lead rehabilitation work on at least 25 housing units throughout Sullivan County, complementing activities within the County’s existing Lead Hazard Abatement and Healthy Homes Program. The program will prioritize the households of families with young children under the age of six who are most vulnerable to lead exposure.
Town of Lancaster – Affordable Housing Education and Development (AHEAD) – $300,000: Resources will support AHEAD’s rehabilitation of McKee Inn, a 35-unit affordable housing development in downtown Lancaster. All units are income-restricted and serve seniors and individuals with disabilities. The project will include the repair/replacement of the aging heating system, parking lot upgrades, and exterior site work including new roofing and siding.
Town of Newport – Elm Grove Companies – $500,000: Elm Grove Companies will leverage grant funds for the development of a new 55-unit, affordable multifamily housing project in Newport. Funds will be used toward acquisition. The development will support households ranging from 20 to 80 percent of Area Median Income.
Town of Tamworth – Housing Initiatives of New England Corporation – $500,000: Housing Initiatives of New England Corporation will use grant funds for renovations at Remick Acres, a 24-unit housing building. All units are occupied by elderly and/or disabled individuals, this project will ensure that the units will remain affordable.
Public Facilities
City of Laconia – Community Action Program Belknap and Merrimack Counties, Inc. – $500,000:
The Community Action Program Belknap and Merrimack Counties, Inc. will leverage grant funds to improve and expand the Laconia Senior Center’s commercial kitchen. The Center currently serves 1,127 senior citizens with meals and health and wellness programming in the greater Laconia region.
Coös County – Coös County Skilled Nursing Facility – $371,600: Resources will support the modernization of the two elevators serving the Coös County Skilled Nursing Facility in Berlin. The project will replace pumps, controls and add required safety and ADA features to allow code-compliant access for residents, staff and visitors. The facility houses 78 residents and rely on the elevators for daily mobility and care.
Town of Derry – Granite Estates Cooperative – $500,000: Granite Estates Cooperative will leverage grant funds to replace the aging and deteriorating water distribution system serving the 37-home manufactured housing community located in Derry. The Cooperative is connected to the municipal water system but is facing issues that threaten the health and safety of its 49 residents. This project will ensure that residents have access to a safe, reliable water supply and the community remains a sustainable and affordable housing option.
Town of Epping – Evans Cooperative – $499,500: Evans Cooperative, a 19-unit resident-owned manufactured housing community in Epping, will leverage grant funds to replace the failing electrical infrastructure. The existing poles and cables are more than 50 years old, unstable and no longer meet electrical code standards. This project will ensure the continued safety and well-being of the 24 residents and preserve the affordability of this vital housing resource for the community.
The grant awards await final approval from the Governor and Executive Council.
